Angel, Stayton-Sublimity-Aumsville, Lebanon, Sweet Home Edition: Version 1 Geospatial_Data_Presentation_Form: map Series_Information: Series_Name: Interpretive Map Series Issue_Identification: 8 Publication_Information: Publication_Place: Portland, Oregon Publisher: Oregon Department of Geology and Mineral Industries Online_Linkage: www.oregongeology.com Description: Abstract: There has been a significant increase in the understanding of earthquake hazards in the Pacific Northwest. It is now known that Oregon may experience damaging earthquakes much larger than any that have past. Planning to respond to earthquake disasters and strengthening homes, buildings and power, water, communication and transportation lifelines can greatly reduce the impact of an earthquake. These measures should be based on the best possible forecast of the amount and distribution of future earthquake damage. Earthquake hazard maps such as those in this publication provide such a forecast. Purpose: These maps identify those areas in selected Northwestern Oregon communities that will suffer more damage, relative to other areas, during a damaging earthquake. The analysis is based on the behavior of the soils, and does not depict the absolute earthquake hazard at any particular site.
