Description:
Abstract:
Relative Earthquake Hazard Maps, including ground motion amplification, liquefaction, and earthquake-induced landslide hazards, and the Water-induced Landslide Hazard Map for Benton County were developed based on local geologic, topographic, and hydrologic conditions. The local geologic conditions, including thickness and engineering properties of geologic materials, were derived from existing geological, geotechnical, topographic, and water-well data and limited field investigations. These data were used to construct three-dimensional geologic models, using geographic information system (GIS) software. The ground motion amplification hazard is derived using GIS software to assign hazard values on the basis of the UBC-97 methodology. Liquefaction hazard is derived in a similar manner, by use of the age and depositional environment of the geologic units and a simplified state-of-practice engineering analysis. Earthquake-induced and water-induced landslide hazards were analyzed with infinite-slope modeling and with the assumption of the worst hydrologic conditions: 100% saturation or 0 m groundwater table. The relative earthquake hazard maps and water-induced landslide hazard map delineate those areas most likely to experience damage during a strong earthquake or heavy rainfall. This information can be used to develop a variety of hazard mitigation strategies.
Purpose:
Assist in the development of emergency response planning.
Supplemental_Information:
Digital map data files include: Map 1 (UBC-97), Map 2 (liquefaction potential), Map 3 (earthquake-induced landslide hazard), Map 4 (water-induced landslide hazard)
